Summer 2011 Fiber Sorting Party!
|
|
Well it is time again to start our summer sorting
events. We will again be at Sherri Tallmon’s place on July 10th to
start going through the last of 2010 and move onto 2011. As you all
know, we have had tremendous success this year and last. This
success is now what makes it even more important for your Fiber
Cooperative to get this next collection of fiber ready to go to the
Mills. We have sent several thousand pounds of fiber to the mills
already this year. A couple hundred is in Canada right now being
woven into the wonderful Herringbone that everyone loves. We have
sold completely out of what we received earlier. We sent 1300+ lbs
to Pendleton and of course hundreds more to Texas for the large
orders of Rugs we were getting.
So it is now very important we have the next fiber
ready to go to mills as production is needed. This is a very
exciting time for all of us. The new Pendleton Blanket will be back
in early October. The beautifully herringbone blankets will be back
in the next couple months, and we have another order of rugs coming
back for the coops inventory.
We will be meeting on the 10th at 10am like normal.
Please plan on attending if all possible. As members, we need
everyone's support in this. This will be the crucial sort that is
needed for all orders to fill our 2011 production runs.
Please email me back to let me know if you will be
able to attend. This was the date that had the least amount of
conflict for most everyone. I know we are all busy, and a lot going
on this summer, so let’s have a great turnout and get as much done
as we can. This way, if you are not able to attend on later on, you
will have fulfilled one of our membership obligations.
We also have been working on a new design and Logo
for the Cooperative. It will be finalized shortly. Thanks for
everyone's ideas and suggestions for design and wording.
Again, please let us know if you can attend. We need
to know how many to expect. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
Please bring additional lunch for yourselves. This is also a good
time to drop off this years shearing. If I don't hear from you, I
will figure you will be able to attend.
Thanks,
Larry McCool

Llama fiber helps with the Gulf oil Spill....we need you!
We have the opportunity to help control the Gulf oil spill with our PNWLF
fiber that is not usable for the items that we are having made. Hair
collects oil - that is why we have to shampoo so often - and is used in
"booms" and mats to absorb oil in spills of all kinds, even highway
spills. I have been in touch with the non-profit organization that is
making these with donated hair and fur and donating them for oil spills
all over the country. With the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico, these
booms are critically needed to protect the beaches in Louisiana, Alabama,
Mississippi and Florida. Anyone who has visited the white beaches of
eastern Florida or the bayous of Louisiana knows what a terrible loss this
will be. You can read a lot more about the program at their website -
http://www.matteroftrust.org/
We are signed up and will be shipping wool to the New Orleans warehouse
where volunteers are stuffing booms (see website for pictures).
We need donations to pay for the shipping and we need members to
help pack the wool in shipping boxes.
If you can donate, please send a check for $10 or more to Larry.
PNWLFC
3769 Jefferson-Scio Dr.
Jefferson, OR 97352
If you can volunteer to help pack the wool at Sherri's in Estacada, please
contact me at velta@onlinenw.com or
503-843-7508. We would like to
do this as soon as possible, so please let me know when you would be
available to help and we will work with Sherri on a time.
Interestingly, if natural fibers are used to absorb the oil, they can be
composted with vegetable matter and worms for two years and the oil is
completely digested. If man-made products are used for the booms and
mats, they must be disposed of as hazardous material.
This is a little thing that we can do to help. Please donate or volunteer
so
that we can do this and get help on the way.

3/21/09 - FIBER MOVING DAY!
Hi Everyone,
The time has come again for your Fiber Coop to
relocate out fiber storage.
Shirley and Calvin DeJong have been hosting the coop's fiber storage and
our
sorting events. This is a very large and sometimes
stressful thing. We were so
fortunate that they were able to take over for Ken & Celia Erion, who
maintained
the inventory out first 2 years. Ken & Celia did an excellent job and
made it easier
for Shirley and Calvin to continue the process.
The fiber storage will now be moving to Sherri and
Will Tallmon's place at
Hidden Oaks Llama Ranch in Estacada, Oregon. We will be making the move
this Saturday, 3/21/09.
As all of you know, part of the commitment you make when you join the
coop is to
step up as a volunteer either during one of our sorting events, working
in one of our
booths, or helping with an important event like this. We will need
several members
on this weekend. The Directors will not be able to do
this on our own.
We will need your help.
I get asked by members all of the time what they can
do to help. Well here is your
opportunity to fulfill your commitment to the coop. Remember, you own
this "business".
What you put into it will be what we all get out of it. So I expect you
all to step forward
and help with this effort. One of your board members, Pamella Watson
will be
coordinating this effort of volunteers.
Please contact her and let her know how you can help with this. We will
need several
trailers to haul the large quantity of sorted and unsorted fiber from
Shirley's place near
McMinnville, Oregon to Sherri's place in Estacada.
Here is Pamella's email to get in touch with her
PPW30@MSN.COM 503-370-3784
This will be a new start for the coop. So lets make
2009 again our most productive
year yet. Like I said. You own this Fiber Coop. If you have issues you
would like
addressed, you as an owner have the responsibility to bring them
forward. If you see
things you would like changed, get involved. We can't have members
sitting on the
sidelines and only being heard when they have a complaint or other
issues.
Remember to contact Pamella to let her know what you can do to help with
the move.
Thanks in advance for all of your help.
Larry
